Jesus Christ understands your emotions

Where are you today? What are your circumstances? What emotions do you feel? Jesus Christ understands exactly what you are feeling. He loves you with an everlasting, unconditional love. Nothing you need do to make Him love you more and nothing you can do will cause Him to love you less. His love for you does not depend on you or your actions. Jesus Christ loves you because He is love. You do not have to explain your emotions to Jesus nor tell Him why you feel the way you feel. He already knows. How can that be?

Look at His action recorded in Hebrews 2:

14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.

17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

Succour = to help and relieve

Emotions of Jesus

  • He wept –

John 11:35 Jesus wept.

Luke 19:41 And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,

  • He loved –

Mark 10: 21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

  • He marveled –

Mark 6:5 And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.

6 And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.

  • He sighed –

Mark 8:11 And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him.

12 And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.

  • He was displeased –

Mark 10: 14 But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

  • He felt anger and grief –

Mark 3: 5And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.

  • He felt compassion –

Matthew 9:36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

Luke 7:13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.

  • He suffered people –

Luke 9:41 And Jesus answering said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son hither

  • He felt agony –

Luke 22:44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

  • He rejoiced-

Luke 10:21 In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight

  • He felt compelled –

Luke 9:51 And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem,

  • He felt sorrow-

Matthew 26:38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.

  • He was depressed –

Mark 14: 32 And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.

33 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;

  • He felt abandoned –

Matthew 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

  • He was weary –

John 4: 6 Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.

Hebrews 4:

12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Notice that Jesus sits on the throne of grace not the throne of judgment. What does that mean to you?

No one understands like Jesus- John W. Peterson

1 No one understands like Jesus, He’s a friend beyond compare;
Meet Him at the throne of mercy, He is waiting for you there

Chorus:
No one understands like Jesus, When the days are dark and grim;
No one is so near, so dear as Jesus, Cast your every care on Him.

2 No one understands like Jesus, Every woe He sees and feels;
Tenderly He whispers comfort, And the broken heart He heals.

(Chorus)

3 No one understands like Jesus, When the foes of life assail;
You should never be discouraged, Jesus cares and will not fail

(Chorus)

4 No one understands like Jesus, When you falter on the way;

Tho’ you fail Him, sadly fail Him, He will pardon you today.

(Chorus)

Questions for reflection

1) Which emotion are you most feeling?

2) Can you find a scripture reference where Jesus also felt that emotion?

3) When you consider that Jesus, the God-man, had your same feelings, what do you think?

4) Tell it to Jesus. He cares about you, loves you unconditionally, has a good plan for your life.

Hebrews 12:

1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Dearly Beloved,

Run with your eyes on Jesus alone!

Run in faith that Jesus loves you with an everlasting, unconditional love; has uniquely designed and created only one you; has a good plan for your life; runs with you; and will  accomplish His purposes for you and through you!

Run in His strength alone!

Run with your eyes on the prize!

Run with your focus on His mission: to conform you to the image of Jesus Christ!

Run with the desire to finish strong!

Run with the desire to finish with your lamp burning!

Run with the expectation of being in His physical presence when you cross your finish line!

Run to His glory alone!

Run and keep on running!
