Why did Jesus enter Jerusalem on a donkey not a horse?

The prophecy was given sometime between 520 and 518 BC and recorded in Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.

Then after centuries of silence, God sent His King recorded in Matthew 21: 1And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples,

2Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.

3And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them.

4All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying,

5Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.

6And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them,

7And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon.

8And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.

9And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.

Why wasn’t the King riding a horse in majesty?

Why wasn’t the King robed in royalty?

Why was there no army with swords but only regular folks with palm branches?

Why did no trumpets sound to announce His coming?

Jesus Christ came lowly in appearance, without His royal robes and majesty. Jesus Christ came  with salvation not judgment. He is just. He came to provide the solution to man’s sin problem for all who will receive Him. Jesus Christ came to offer peace not war. Jesus Christ came to offer reconciliation with God not to conquer rebellious sinners.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

What does this first coming of the Messiah mean to you?

Have you received Jesus as your Lord and Savior?

Have you received His salvation?

Are there times when your Savior enters your circumstances in unexpected ways?

But there is coming a day when Jesus will enter Jerusalem to conquer the rebellious sinners, destroy all enemies even death and reign in victory!

Revelation 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

12His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.

13And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

14And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.

15And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

16And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

Do you know this song? The King is Coming-Ray Boltz

The Market place is empty-No more traffic in the streets
All the builders tools are silent-No more time to harvest wheat
Busy housewives cease their labors-in the courtroom no debate
Work on earth has been suspended As the King comes thro’ the gate

The King is coming-The King is coming
i just heard the trumpet sounding And now His face i see
The King is coming-The King is coming
Praise God He’s coming for me
Happy faces line the hallway-Those whose lives have been redeemed
Broken homes that He has mended -Those from prison He’s set free
Little children and the aged Hand in hand stand all aglow
who were crippled broken ruined-Clad in garments white as snow
I can hear the chariots rumble-I can see the marching throng
And the flurry of God’s trumpets spell the end of sin and wrong
Regal robes are now unfolding -Heaven’s grandstands all in place
Heaven’s choir is now assembled Start to sing Amazing Grace
The King is coming, the King is coming, Praise God He’s coming for me.

Focus-Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God
