I fell, breaking a knee, an elbow and my tailbone! Recovery was long and panful. But Jesus was faithful and taught me more about His love, His healing power and the aspects of pain and why He chose to receive each of those aspects of pain while He lived on earth in a human body and died on the cross for our salvation.

We continue our series examining Biblical records contrasting sin and the consequences of sin with two words: But God. Our Creator is love and He concerns Himself with the welfare of His creation. Jesus told us that our Heavenly Father feeds the birds; clothes the lilies of the fields; and numbers the hairs on each of our heads, even though the number changes daily.

We live in a fallen creation, Sin and death have entered the world, which is no longer perfect and not even good. Yet, a holy God chooses to concern Himself with us. The Bible shows many situations where God intervenes.  Let’s begin our examination to learn more about the holy God Who rules all yet cares for you and me.

Sin is universal

Romans 3:²³For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Sin has consequences but God has a remedy

Romans 6:²³For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

God raised Jesus from the dead

Acts 13:²⁶Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent. ²⁷For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him. ²⁸And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain. ²⁹And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre. ³⁰But God raised him from the dead:

In the year 95 A.D., John was given a revelation of future events.

In the 10^th century B.C. David ,the shepherd boy, faced a giant

‘Twas battered and scarred and the auctioneer
Thought it scarcely worth his while
To waste much time on the old violin,
But he held it up with a smile.

“What am I bid, good folk?” he cried.
“Who’ll start the bidding for me?
A dollar, a dollar … now two … only two .
Two dollars, and who’ll make it three?

“Three dollars once, three dollars twice,
Going for three” … but no!
From the room far back a gray-haired man
Came forward and picked up the bow.

Then wiping the dust from the old violin
And tightening up the strings,
He played a melody pure and sweet,
As sweet as an angel sings.

The music ceased, and the auctioneer,
With a voice that was quiet and low,
Said, “What am I bid for the old violin?”
As he held it up with the bow.

“A thousand dollars … and who’ll make it two?
Two…two thousand, and who’ll make it three?
Three thousand once and three thousand twice …
Three thousand and gone!” said he.

The people cheered, but some exclaimed
“We do not quite understand …
What changed it’s worth?” and the answer came:
” ‘Twas the touch of the master’s hand.”

And many a man with soul out of tune
And battered and scarred by sin
Is auctioned cheap by the thoughtless crowd  -Just like the old violin.

A “mess ‘o pottage”  a glass of wine
A game and he travels on.
He’s “going” once
And “going” twice
And “going” . . . and almost “gone”

Then along comes the Master, and the foolish crowd
Never can quite understand
The worth of a soul or the change that’s wrought
By the touch of the Master’s Hand.

‘The Master’s Hand’ was written by Myra Brooks Welch (1877 – 1959). She was called “The poet with the singing soul.” As a young woman, Myra’s special love was playing the organ.

In 1921, she heard a speaker address a group of students. She said she became filled with light, and “Touch of the Master’s Hand wrote itself in 30 minutes!”

She sent it anonymously to her church news bulletin. She felt it was a gift from God, and didn’t need her name on it. All of her poetry told of the rejoicing she had in God’s love. What the world did not see, was: Myra in her wheelchair, from severe arthritis. She took one pencil in each of her badly deformed hands. Using the eraser end, she would slowly type the words, the joy of them outweighing the pain of her efforts. Her words, a joyous expression of the wonders of life, as seen by a singing soul that was touched by the Master’s Hand. As a friend turned to leave her home, Myra patted the arm of her wheelchair and said, “And I thank God for this!” Imagine being grateful for a wheelchair! Rather than becoming bitter, she chose to let her handicap make her better, and a wonderful new door opened for her.

David wrote in the 10^th century B.C.

Psalm 55:22 Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Cast = to throw off or away

Burden = that which is borne with difficulty

LORD =Jehovah, the I AM, The Covenant Keeper

Sustain = to keep (a person, the mind, the spirits, etc.) from giving way, as under trial or affliction.

Psalm 37:5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

In the 8^th century B.C. the prophet Micah wrote these words:

Life is difficult in this fallen creation that is no longer perfect and not even good. Sin and death have entered creation. Everyone is born with a sinful, rebellious nature. In the 8^th century B.C. the prophet Micah wrote these words:

Micah 6:8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

Require = to call on authoritatively; order or enjoin to do something

Justly = in a just manner; honestly; fairly

Mercy = compassionate or kindly forbearance shown toward an offender

Walk = to move, advance

Humbly =in a way that shows insignificance, inferiority, or subservience

Notice the emphasis on walking with God?  You and I do not need to walk alone! In the year 68 A.D., our God documented these words for you and me:

Hebrews 13:⁵ Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. ⁶So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

Triumph = a significant success or noteworthy achievement; instance or occasion of victory

Savour =the quality in a substance that is perceived by the sense of taste or smell

Romans 8:³⁵ Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? ³⁶As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. ³⁷Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. ³⁸For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, ³⁹Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Separate = to keep apart or divide, as by an intervening barrier or space

Conqueror = a person who overcomes, subdues or vanquishes; victor

Able = having necessary power, skill, resources, or qualifications; qualified

Falling = to come or drop down suddenly to a lower position

Faultless = without fault, flaw, or defect; perfect

Victory overcomes the world

1 John 5:⁴ For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. ⁵Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

Faith = Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Victory = a success or superior position achieved against any enemy

When they took the body of Jesus from the cross and laid Him in the sepulcher there were women watching. The Bible gives two names but there were more.

Matthew 27:⁵⁹And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, ^{60And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed. 61And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.}
