The LORD’s goodness in the pandemic
You and I live in a fallen creation that is no longer perfect and not even good. Sin and death have entered creation. Everyone is born in the likeness of Adam with a sin nature. Now we are experiencing a worldwide pandemic of coronavirus.
In the 10th century B.C. David wrote these words of encouragement
Psalm 27:13 I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. 14Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.
Goodness =moral excellence, kindness, generosity
Wait =to continue as one in expectation
Courage =the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear
Strengthen =to give strength to; to make stronger
What do his words matter to you?
Remember Who God is
LORD = Jehovah, the I AM, the Covenant Keeper
Remember what God has done
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

It is Finished and some day It is Done!
It is Finished
John 19:28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. 29Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. 30When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
’It is finished’ is the translation of the Greek word: tetelestai, meaning ‘paid in full’. Your sin debt to God and my sin debt to God was paid in full by Jesus Christ.
Why did Jesus come to earth?
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
It is Done

The Counsel of God
Sometimes our world is complex. You and I have choices to make, decisions about what to do. Our Creator, Savior and Friend knows the best choice and wants the best for you and me. He desires to give counsel because He loves you and me.
Solomon wrote about that counsel
Proverbs 19:21 There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.
Counsel = help, advice, a recommended course of action
LORD = Jehovah, the I AM, the Covenant Keeper
Will you ask for the LORD’s help and advice?

Psalm 33:10 The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect. 11The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.

In 68 A.D. Paul wrote to the Hebrews

Who is Cain and what wrong did he do?
In his biblical book written in 68 A.D., Jude challenges Christians to contend for the faith and warns against potential errors. Jude was the youngest half-brother of Jesus according to Matthew 13:53And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence. 54And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works? 55Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? Jude was a nickname for Judas.
What did Jude write?
Jude 10But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves. 11Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Korah.
Who is Cain and what wrong did he do?
Genesis 4:1 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD. 2And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. 3And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. 4And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: 5But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him. 16And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
Cain chose to worship God in his own way, with the fruits of his labor.
Do you think Cain did not understand the required sacrifice or did he refuse to accept that a sacrifice for his sin was required?

Why did Jude warn Christians of the way of Cain?

7 gifts the Christ child brings
On that first Christmas, Jesus, God in the flesh, brought gifts to earth. The angel proclaimed: Peace on earth, goodwill toward man.
Imagine! The Creator of all things showed goodwill toward His rebellious creatures. Truly Jesus is that first Christmas gift. But what gifts did He bring?
Cleansing
Titus 3:4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, 5Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; 7That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
Redemption
Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
Justification
Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Adoption
Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
Acceptance

Santa
The myth is that Santa comes at Christmas time to give gifts to those who are good. We joke about being on the naughty list or the nice list.
Jesus
The truth is that Jesus came that first Christmas as a gift from God to all of because we can not be good!

December is here. The birthday of the Christ, God in the flesh, approaches. Schedules are busy with shopping, cards, concerts, parties. Sometimes we must choose what to do, what to attend. Circumstances and schedules can impair our focus on the true meaning of Christmas.
Here is the message from God, our Creator and Savior, to you and me:

Where is Andrew?
In my daily devotions I read about the transfiguration of Jesus. I was surprised to realize that Andrew was not included.
Mark 9:1And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power. 2And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. 3And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. 4And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus.

They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour. 40One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. 42And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.
Andrew is called to follow Jesus
Matthew 4:18And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. 19And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. 20And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.

John 6:5When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat? 6And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do. 7Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little. 8One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, saith unto him, 9There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many? 10And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. 11And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would. 12When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. 13Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten.

Andrew asks Jesus when these things will happen
Mark 13:2And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. 3And as he sat upon the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately, 4Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled?

John 12:20And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast: 21The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus. 22Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.

Did you hear that some are saying the New Testament is not a firsthand account but was written centuries after Jesus came to earth, died for our sins and rose from the dead for our justification? They say there is no “first hand” account. Is the New Testament hearsay?
We believe Jesus ministered from 30 A.D. to 33 A.D.
He began His ministry 30 A.D. –
Numbers 4:1And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, 2Take the sum of the sons of Kohath from among the sons of Levi, after their families, by the house of their fathers, 3From thirty years old and upward even until fifty years old, all that enter into the host, to do the work in the tabernacle of the congregation.30 From thirty years old and upward even unto fifty years old shalt thou number them, every one that entereth into the service, to do the work of the tabernacle of the congregation.
Passover during His 1st year of ministry-John 2:13 And the Jews’ passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem, 14And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:
Passover during His 2nd year of ministry-John 6:4 And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh. 5When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat?
