JESUS CHRIST MASTER LIFE COACH – the mission of Jesus Christ’s team.
In this series we are examining the specifics of Jesus Christ as your Master Life Coach. So far in this series we have examined the description of Jesus Christ’s team; the positions on Jesus Christ’s team. Today we look at the mission of Jesus Christ’s team.
The Mission of Jesus Christ’s Team recorded in Matthew 28:
16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.
17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Every member on Jesus Christ’s team is to
- Go –to act as specified
Which of your actions draw others to Jesus Christ?
Which of your actions perhaps keep others away from Jesus Christ?
- Teach- in order to teach one has to know; 2 Timothy 2:
How often do you study the Bible?
What method do you use to study the Bible?
- Baptize- participate in your local church’s baptism services
- Trust that Jesus Christ, your Master Life Coach, is with you always
What can you do to keep focused on the presence of your Master Life Coach?
Peter gives specific qualities that should be seen in your behavior – 2 Peter 1:
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
Faith- confidence or trust in a person
Virtue-moral excellence
Knowledge-awareness
Temperance-self restraint
Patience-willingness to suppress restlessness and annoyance
Godliness-conforming to the laws and wishes of God
Brotherly kindness-favor
Charity-Christian love, benevolent feeling, leniency in judging
Which of these qualities is evidenced in your Life?
Which needs work?
Talk it over with your Master Life Coach.
Participating on Jesus Christ’s team requires submission to Jesus Christ, of course. But submission to others in authority is required for mission success.
Sub = under
Mission =

Is it easy or hard for you to submit to authority?
Jesus Christ, your master Life Coach’s invitation in Matthew 11:
26 Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light
Yoke=an emblem or symbol of subjection that binds together; a bind
Notice, His invitation does not reuire effort on your part to clean up your act. His invitation is simply ‘come’.
What do you see in the example of Jesus Chrsit, your Master Life Coach?
How can taking His yoke upon you, make your burden light?
Hebrews 12:

Jesus Christ as your Master Life Coach -Positions on Jesus Christ’s Team.
In this series we are examining the specifics of Jesus Christ as your Master Life Coach. Today we look at the positions on Jesus Christ’s team.
Jesus Christ, the Master Life Coach and the most proficient, successful coach possible recruits His team members and assigns them specific positions on His team.
The positions of Jesus Christ’s team recorded in 1 Corinthians 12:
4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
14 For the body is not one member, but many.
18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
19 And if they were all one member, where were the body?
20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.
22 Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:
We see that every member is important for the success of the team.
27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?
30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.
We see that specific assignments and/or duties are given to each Team member
What are your spiritual gifts?
Note: spiritual gifts are not personal talents. Rather spiritual gifts are given at the time of salvation, when you become a member of His team.
Questions for refection
1) How are you using your spiritual gifts?
2) Team success requires every member to submit in his/her position and serve in harmony.
What are your personal barriers to serving in harmony with other members of His team?
3) Which barrier will you work on first?
4) Talk to Jesus Christ about what you should do and how you should do it. He stands ready to help you.
Hebrews 12:

16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
Will=determination, surety
Build=to construct, create, establish, increase, strengthen, mold, form
Prevail=to be superior in strength, power and influence; succeed

What did the angels say about Jesus Christ at His Resurrection?
Angel Basics
What are the angels – Hebrews 1: 1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; 4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. 5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? 6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. 7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. 8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. 9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. 10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: 11 They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; 12 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail. 13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? 14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?
The angels are to worship Jesus, God’s Son
The angels are created by God
The angels are spirits
The angels are His ministers
The angels are sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation
As we reflect on the events of Holy Week, including the trial, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, let us consider the words of the angels. Did they give specific information? What do they say?
Matthew 28: 1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. 2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. 3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: 4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. 5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. 6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 7 go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth bAnd efore you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you. 8 And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.
The angel said ‘do not be afraid’
Why do you suppose the first words concerned fear?
The angel said ‘He is not here’ in the grave.
The angel said ‘He is risen’.
The angel said ‘come, see where the Lord lay’.
Why do you suppose the angel wanted the women to look?
The angel said ‘go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead’.
The angel said ‘you shall see Him in Galilee’.
Mark 16: 1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. 2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. 3 And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre? 4 And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great. 5 And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted. 6 And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him. 7 But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you. 8 And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulchre; for they trembled and were amazed: neither said they any thing to any man; for they were afraid.
The angel said ‘do not be afraid’
The angel said ‘He is risen’.
Do you suppose the angel spoke quietly?
The angel said ‘He is not here’ in the grave.
The angel said ‘behold the place where they laid Him’.
What is the significance of looking at the place where they laid Him?
The angel said “go your way’
The angel said ‘tell His disciples and Peter that he goes before you into Galilee’
Why do you suppose the angel specifically mentioned Peter. What does that mean regarding the angels’ knowledge of our behavior and actions?
The angel said “there you shall see Him as He said’
What is the significance of ‘as He said’?
Luke 24: 1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. 2 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. 3 And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: 5 And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, 7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. 8 And they remembered his words, 9 And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.
The angels asked ‘why seek ye the living among the dead’
Do you suppose the angels wondered at this behavior or unbelief?
The angels said ’He is not here’
The angels said ‘He is risen’.
The angels said ‘Remember how He spoke unto you when He was in Galilee Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again’.
Why do you suppose the angels were reminding them of what Jesus Christ had said?
John 20: 11 But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre, 12 And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. 13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him. 14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
The angels said ‘Why are you crying’
Do you suppose the angels weep?
Why do you suppose the angels said nothing else?
Our focus: Hebrews 12: 1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who forthe joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God
Our challenge – Dearly Beloved,
Run with your eyes on Jesus alone!
Run in faith that Jesus loves you, has uniquely designed and created only one you, has a good plan for your life, runs with you and will accomplish His purposes for you and through you!
Run in His strength alone!
Run with your eyes on the prize!
Run with your focus on His mission: to conform you to the image of Jesus Christ!

2 Types of Death, 2 Types of Resurrection, and 3 Phases of Resurrection
Death is a result of man’s disobedience to God.
Romans 3:
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Romans 6:23
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Death Type 1-physical, the body and spirit are separated
Ecclesiastes 12:
7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
We see the body and the spirit are separated at the point of physical death. Everyone is under the sentence of physical death because everyone has sinned.
Death Type 2-body and spirit are reunited, judged and cast into the lake of fire- Revelation 20:
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
We see that those who are judged on their works, and do not have their name written in the Book of Life, are found guilty and cast unto the lake of fire. It is so important to realize the lake of fire was designed for satan and the rebellious angels never for people.
Matthew 25:
God wants every person to be excluded from this second death according to 2 Peter 3:
How can you have your name written in the Book of Life? John records the answer in chapter 3:
Paul records more of the answer in his letter to the Romans chapter 10:
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on Him shall not be ashamed.
Types of Resurrection of the body (reuniting of body and spirit):
The words of Jesus recorded by John in chapter 5:
26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;
27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.
There are two resurrections of the body. During each resurrection the body and spirit are reunited. The first resurrection is the resurrection of life and the second the resurrection of damnation.
You will be part of the resurrection to life if your name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
Those who are in the Resurrection to Life will never experience the second death.
The Resurrection to Life has 3 phases
Phase 1-First Fruits- Jesus rose from the grave giving evidence that there will be a harvest- 1 Corinthians 15:
20But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.
21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
Phase 2-Harvest occurs when Jesus returns for His church and is explained in 1 Thessalonians 4:
Phase 3-Gleaning occurs during and at the end of the 7-year tribulation and at the end of Jesus’ 1,000 year reign as King on the earth.
Revelation 20:
Questions for reflection
1) What does it mean to you that Jesus made a way for you in the Resurrection to Life?
2) What word best describes your thoughts about death and resurrection?
3) Do you know for sure that your name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life?
4) How can you use this information about death and resurrection?

Resurrection Evidence
Did Jesus rise from the grave with a physical body?
The record according to Luke in chapter 24:
31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
34 Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.
35 And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.
37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.
41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?
42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.
43 And he took it, and did eat before them.
45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
48 And ye are witnesses of these things.
Evidence= Jesus has flesh. Jesus has bones. Jesus can eat. Jesus’ own words are either true or He is not God. According to Numbers 23:
How many witnesses to the physical resurrection of Jesus were there?
Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the Less, and Salome
Matthew 28:
3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:
4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.
6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
Mark adds Salome to the group of ladies in chapter 16:
Two on the road to Emmaus-Luke 24;
14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
16 But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.
10 disciples without Thomas-John 20:
21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
11 disciples with Thomas-John 20:
28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
Disciples at the Sea of Tiberius-John 21:
11 disciples on the day of ascension according to Matthew 28:
16Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.
17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Peter, 500 witnesses, James the Less, Paul -1 Corinthians 15:
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:
7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.
8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.
Evidence = more than 515 eye-witnesses to the physical resurrection of Jesus
What difference does it make that Jesus arose from the grave? Paul’s record in 1 Corinthians 15:
13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:
14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.
16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:
17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.
18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.
19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.
21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.
26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
Questions for Reflection
1) Does your life demonstrate the risen Lord’s presence?
2) How can you use God’s written word to refute the falsehoods regarding the resurrection?
3) What difference to you does the bodily resurrection of Jesus make?
Because he Lives- Bill Gaither
God sent His son, they called Him, Jesus;
He came to love, heal and forgive;
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives!
Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!
How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
And feel the pride and joy he gives;
But greater still the calm assurance:
This child can face uncertain days because He Lives!
Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!
And then one day, I’ll cross the river,
I’ll fight life’s final war with pain;
And then, as death gives way to vict’ry,
I’ll see the lights of glory and I’ll know He lives!
Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!

As the celebration of Easter approaches, walk with me please through the records of those last hours of the earthly life of Jesus Christ. What does God want you to know? What were those last hours like for Jesus Christ?
In this session we examine Jesus Christ’s Resurrection Events
Matthew’s account recorded in chapter 28:
3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:
4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.
6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
13 Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept.
14 And if this come to the governor’s ears, we will persuade him, and secure you.
16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.
17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Mark’s account recorded in chapter 16
3 And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?
4 And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great.
10 And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept.
11 And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.
12 After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country.
13 And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them.
15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Luke’s account recorded in chapter 24:
2 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
3 And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
6 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
8 And they remembered his words,
9 And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.
11 And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.
14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
16 But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.
22 Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;
25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
50 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.
51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.
52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:
53 And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
John’s account recorded in chapter 20:
3 Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.
4 So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.
5 And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.
6 Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,
8 Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.
9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
10 Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.
28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
John’s account recorded in chapter 21:
5 Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No.
10 Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught.
13 Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.
21 Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?
22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.
Questions for Reflection
Which facts seem most significant to you? Why?
- Do you see something you didn’t see before?
- When the keepers saw the angel they were afraid but when the women saw the angel they had joy. Why?
- Why do you think the first words of the risen Jesus Christ to the women were ‘be not afraid’?
- Why do you think the keepers valued money more than their fear of the angel?
- What does it mean to you that Jesus Christ has all power?
- Why do you suppose Jesus Christ appeared specifically to Simon Peter?
Hebrews 12:
Dearly Beloved,
Run with your eyes on Jesus alone!
Run in faith that Jesus loves you, has uniquely designed and created only one you, has a good plan for your
life, runs with you and will accomplish His purposes for you and through you!
Run in His strength alone!
Run with your eyes on the prize!
Run with the desire to finish strong!
Run with the desire to finish with your lamp burning!
Run with the expectation of being in His physical presence when you cross your finish line!

In this session we examine the burial of Jesus Christ
Matthew’s account recorded in chapter 27:
58 He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.
59 And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
61 And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.
65 Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.
66 So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.
Mark’s account recorded in chapter 15:
42 And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath,
45 And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.
47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid
Luke’s account recorded in chapter 23:50-56
50 And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counsellor; and he was a good man, and a just:

54 And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.
John’s account recorded in chapter 19:
Questions for reflection
- Which facts seem most significant to you? Why?
- Do you see something you didn’t see before?
- Do you think it took courage for Joseph to ask for the body of Jesus Christ?
- Why do you think Joseph had to beg for the body and why do you think he wanted to bury the body of Jesus Christ in his own tomb?
- Why do you think the women watched?
- Why do you think Nicodemus helped Joseph prepare and bury the body of Jesus Christ?
- Why did the chief priests and Pharisees set a watch?
