Daniel wrote the biblical book of Daniel in the 6^th century BC, after Babylon conquered Judah (the tribes of Judah and Benjamin) and took some temple vessels and young people to Babylon.

Josiah, King of Judah, reigned 640-608 BC

2 Chronicles 35:19 In the eighteenth year of the reign of Josiah was this passover kept20After all this, when Josiah had prepared the temple, Necho king of Egypt came up to fight against Carchemish by Euphrates: and Josiah went out against him. 21But he sent ambassadors to him, saying, What have I to do with thee, thou king of Judah? I come not against thee this day, but against the house wherewith I have war: for God commanded me to make haste: forbear thee from meddling with God, who is with me, that he destroy thee not. 22Nevertheless Josiah would not turn his face from him, but disguised himself, that he might fight with him, and hearkened not unto the words of Necho from the mouth of God, and came to fight in the valley of Megiddo. 23And the archers shot at king Josiah; and the king said to his servants, Have me away; for I am sore wounded. 24His servants therefore took him out of that chariot, and put him in the second chariot that he had; and they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died, and was buried in one of the sepulchres of his fathers. And all Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah. 25And Jeremiah lamented for Josiah: and all the singing men and the singing women spake of Josiah in their lamentations to this day, and made them an ordinance in Israel: and, behold, they are written in the lamentations. 26Now the rest of the acts of Josiah, and his goodness, according to that which was written in the law of the LORD, 27And his deeds, first and last, behold, they are twritten in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.

The people made Jehoahaz the king

2 Chronicles 36: 1Then the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and made him king in his father’s stead in Jerusalem. 2Jehoahaz was twenty and three years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. 3And the king of Egypt put him down at Jerusalem, and condemned the land in an hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.

Necho made Eliakim the king

2 Chronicles 36:4And the king of Egypt made Eliakim his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem, and turned his name to Jehoiakim. And Necho took Jehoahaz his brother, and carried him to Egypt. 5Jehoiakim was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem: and he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD his God. 6Against him came up Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and bound him in fetters, to carry him to Babylon. 7Nebuchadnezzar also carried of the vessels of the house of the LORD to Babylon, and put them in his temple at Babylon.

Noah and his family worshiped our Creator

Genesis 8:20And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. 21And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. 22While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

Our Creator gave His promise

Aramaic was the language used in the court of Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, and later the official language of the whole western section of the Persian Empire. Remember Babylon conquered Judah in the 6^th century BC and carried to Babylon some of the vessels from the Temple and Children in whom was no blemish, but well favored, and skillful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science.

Matthew and Mark recorded these words of Jesus

Our Creator’s solution for our sin problem, which separates you and me from our Creator, is the Savior, Who is both God and man, the propitiation for your sin and my sin.

When Jesus took our judgment on the cross and conquered death, He made it possible for you and me to be forgiven, to receive eternal life and to be adopted into the family of God. John documented His last words.

John 19:28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. 29Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. 30When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

‘It is finished’ in the original text is the word tetelestai which means ‘paid in full’.

2 Corinthians 9:10 Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)

God does not forget those who minister to His saints

Hebrews 6:10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister. 11And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end: 12That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Servant = a person in the service of another.

Good = morally excellent; virtuous; righteous

Faithful = steady in allegiance or affection

Jesus defines the limits of a servant

Matthew 10:24 The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. 25It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?

How can you and I be as Jesus, our Lord?

You and I do not always know what Jesus will do in some circumstances

1 Corinthians 4:7 For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?

How can you and I show gratitude and humble acceptance for what Jesus has given us?

1 Corinthians 12:4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. 6And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. 7But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 8For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

2 Corinthians 3:5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;

Sufficiency =adequate provision or supply

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Colossians 3:22 Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God: 23And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

Titus 2:9 Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again; 10Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.

Obedience = the act or practice of obeying; dutiful or submissive compliance

How can you and I best please Jesus in all things?

Peter gives instructions to servants

1 Peter 2:18 Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. 19For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. 20For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. 21For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

As His servant how can you and I best follow in His steps in our own circumstances?

Run with your focus on His mission: to conform you to the image of Jesus Christ!

Run with the desire to finish strong!

Run with the desire to finish with your lamp burning!

Run with the expectation of being in His physical presence when you cross your finish line!

Run to His glory alone!

You and I live in a fallen creation that is no longer perfect and not even good. Sin and death have entered the world. Everyone is born with a rebellious sin nature. Our Creator’s solution is the Savior, Who is both God and man and the propitiation for your sin and my sin.

Propitiation = peace offering, appeasement, satisfaction, helping disputing parties reach agreement

Isaiah prophecy about the propitiation for you and me

Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Transgression =violation of a law, command, sin

Iniquities = gross injustice or wickedness

Chastisement = corporal punishment

Why do you and I need propitiation?

Romans 3:23For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

Justified = redeemed or absolved

Grace = God giving you and me what we do not deserve

Redemption = delivered and rescued from a fault

In the years 95-98 AD John wrote

1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 2And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

Advocate = intercessor who pleads the cause of another

I John 4:9In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 10Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

The Father said Jesus is God

Matthew 17:5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

Jesus said Jesus is God

John 10:30 I and my Father are one. 31Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.

John the Baptist said Jesus is God

John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Peter said Jesus is God

Matthew 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

Nathaniel said Jesus is God

John 1:49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.

Thomas said Jesus is God

John 20:28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

The centurion said Jesus is God

Mark 15:39 And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.

John the disciple said Jesus is God

Johnn 21:30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: 31But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
