Scene #1 Questions for reflection
1) What are some times of intimacy you have had with Jesus?
2) What fragrance of Jesus lingers with you most?
3) What busyness keeps you from times alone with Jesus?
4) Do you see a better way to organize your day or do you just need to ask Jesus for help?
5) Can you think of a time when Jesus surprised you?
6) What about power or riches attracts you?
7) Which inner beauty characteristics do you desire to display?

Remember there are others watching you while you run your race
In the midst of running your race Jesus designed just for you, remember He has plans for those around you, also. Jesus cares about all of His creation. Even the sparrow’s well-being does not escape Him.
In this session we will look at the steward to Joseph in Egypt. He was certainly not an Israelite. Yet he knew things about Joseph’s God. How did that happen? Joseph was 13 years a captive in Egypt, estranged from his family and homeland because his brothers sold him into slavery. So how did his steward know things about God? The Bible does not tell us.
Let’s look at what the Bible does tell us.
Genesis 42:
3 And Joseph’s ten brethren went down to buy corn in Egypt.
8 And Joseph knew his brethren, but they knew not him.
10 And they said unto him, Nay, my lord, but to buy food are thy servants come.
11 We are all one man’s sons; we are true men, thy servants are no spies.
12 And he said unto them, Nay, but to see the nakedness of the land ye are come.
14 And Joseph said unto them, That is it that I spake unto you, saying, Ye are spies:
17 And he put them all together into ward three days.
18 And Joseph said unto them the third day, This do, and live; for I fear God:
23 And they knew not that Joseph understood them; for he spake unto them by an interpreter.
26 And they laded their asses with the corn, and departed thence.
Genesis 43:
13 Take also your brother, and arise, go again unto the man:
17 And the man did as Joseph bade; and the man brought the men into Joseph’s house.
20 And said, O sir, we came indeed down at the first time to buy food:
1) What do you understand verse 23 to mean?
2) How could Joseph in his circumstances covey good information about God to his steward?
Was it just by his conduct or did he actually speak about God to his steward?
Of course, Old Testament saints are not part of the Church. But looking at something Paul tells the Christians at Corinth sheds light on the ability of God to touch others through us. God is the same yesterday, today, forever. He does not change.
2 Corinthians 2:
15 For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:
MAY THE MIND OF CHRIST, MY SAVIOR
Words: Kate B. Wilkinson, before 1913; Music: Arthur C. Barham-Gould, 1925
May the mind of Christ, my Savior, Live in me from day to day,
By His love and power controlling All I do and say.
May the Word of God dwell richly In my heart from hour to hour,
So that all may see I triumph Only through His power.
May the peace of God my Father Rule my life in everything,
That I may be calm to comfort Sick and sorrowing.
May the love of Jesus fill me As the waters fill the sea;
Him exalting, self abasing, This is victory.
May I run the race before me, Strong and brave to face the foe,
Looking only unto Jesus As I onward go.
May His beauty rest upon me, As I seek the lost to win,
And may they forget the channel, Seeing only Him.

Identity Crisis – What to do when you feel insignificant:
Where are you today? Are you feeling insignificant like you don’t fit in with others? Sometimes that happens. We do not always see clearly what God is doing. He wants us to live by faith not by sight. It seems that more often than not His plan is not visible to us.
Remember He has a plan for you
Jeremiah 29:
You have so much significance to Him that He thinks of you and has planned for you!
Remember He has works only you can do. Ephesians 2:
How can anything He plans for you to do be insignificant?
Hope in Him-Psalms 130:
5 I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.
7 Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.
Spend time with Him and studying His Word. Let Him speak to you as only He can.
The Apostle Paul provides 4 windows into thriving while in seemingly insignificant circumstances. His letter to the Philippians was written while he was a prisoner of Nero.
Window #1- Philippians 1:
13 So that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, and in all other places;
15 Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:
16 The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:
17 But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.
21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
22 But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not.
Put your confidence in God. His plan never fails. Do all things for His glory and leave the results to Him.
Window #2 – Philippians 2:
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
Focus on Jesus, your Savior and Lord. Consider what He has done for you and the future He plans.
Window #3 – Philippians 3:
6 Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.
7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.
14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Remember your goal and press toward it – to know Him in these circumstances, to know the power of His resurrection in these circumstances, to know the fellowship of His sufferings in these circumstnacesand to attain unto the resurrection of the dead..
Window #4 – Philippians 4:
4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.
5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
Rejoice!

Facing the Challenges of 2014 with 5 Words
What are your plans for 2014? Do you have special events planned?
Will there be special achievements?
For sure there will be challenges. How will you face them?
The Apostle Paul gives us 5 special words for facing challenges.
But before we look at those 5 words, let’s look at two thoughts.
Thought #1-Ephesians 2:
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Jesus is in control, has a good plan for your life and is developing you.
Thought #2-Hebrews 13:
Jesus will never leave you or forsake you
Paul’s 5 words for facing those challenges are found in the context of his letter to the Galatians, chapter 5:
2 Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.
3 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.
5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
Face the challenges of 2914 with faith which works by love.
Face those challenges with faith in Who Jesus is and what He is doing and who you are in Him. Use your love for Jesus and for yourself because He loves you unconditionally and His love for His creation.
It was a Sunday afternoon, January 1956 when these 5 missionaries trying to give the gospel to the Aucas in Ecuador sang this song, not knowing they would pass over their finish lines into the presence of Jesus due to martyrdom later that day. We Rest on Thee
Edith G. Cherry, c.1895
We rest on Thee, our Shield and our Defender!
We go not forth alone against the foe;
Strong in Thy strength, safe in Thy keeping tender,
We rest on Thee, and in Thy Name we go.
Yes, in Thy Name, O Captain of salvation!
In Thy dear Name, all other names above;
Jesus our Righteousness, our sure Foundation,
Our Prince of glory and our King of love.
We go in faith, our own great weakness feeling,
And needing more each day Thy grace to know:
Yet from our hearts a song of triumph pealing,
“We rest on Thee, and in Thy Name we go.”
We rest on Thee, our Shield and our Defender!
Thine is the battle, Thine shall be the praise;
When passing through the gates of pearly splendor,
Victors, we rest with Thee, through endless days.

God’s Christmas Gift to you– Jesus
Where are you today in your race He set out for you?
Are you overwhelmed with the busyness of Christmas?
Are you discouraged with others or yourself?
Are you lonely?
God knows all about you and He cares.
Let’s focus on His Christmas gift.
What is the significance of this gift in your daily life?
Let’s examine the gift of Jesus.
The gift was given at an appointed time for an appointed purpose
Galatians 4:
5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
You have been bought out of the hand of your enemy
Psalms 107:
1O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;
Jesus is both God and man so He fully understands both God and you.
He is the daysman for whom Job longed.
Job 9:
32 For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together in judgment.
33 Neither is there any daysman betwixt us, that might lay his hand upon us both.
Hebrews 4:
9There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
1 Timothy 2:
5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
God’s complete plan for your redemption is not finished. We can only glimpse and imagine what the finish will be like.
Ephesians 5:
2 Peter 3:
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
Revelation 21:
7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son

Encouragement to Keep-on keeping-On Lesson #3
In this series we examine some of the top reasons Christians give up on their appointed ministry assignment.
Today we examine the problem of fear. Fear is the #2 problem emotion. What things make you afraid? Are you afraid today? Fear can paralyze. Fear can force our focus off Jesus, our assignment, our appointed task at hand and the goal of hearing His “Well done!”
Fear is normal. Emotions are only signals about what is going on around us.
Fear is not a sin.
How you react to the feeling of fear is important for running your race and for your development.
Let’s look at the example of David in 2 Samuel 22. Psalm 18 is the same thing but 2 Samuel puts the psalm in context.
Here is the context from 2 Samuel 21:
11 And it was told David what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done.
So we see from the context that David is aged and no longer able to fight. David, whom God identified as a bloody man, unfit to build the temple. 1 Chronicles 22:
We also see from the context that David is finishing unsettled business with Saul’s house and with his wife, Michal. Remember when David danced before the Lord as the Ark of the Covenant was brought to Jerusalem? Michal scorned him and David gave retribution. 2 Samuel 6:
23 Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death.
So what can we learn from this Psalm?
2 Samuel 22
2 And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;
4 I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
Solution to fear: Focus on your relationship with God. He is personal
5 When the waves of death compassed me, the floods of ungodly men made me afraid;
6 The sorrows of hell compassed me about; the snares of death prevented me;
17 He sent from above, he took me; he drew me out of many waters;
18 He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated me: for they were too strong for me.
19 They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay.
20 He brought me forth also into a large place: he delivered me, because he delighted in me.
Solution to fear: Remember what He has done for you in the past
29 For thou art my lamp, O LORD: and the LORD will lighten my darkness.
30 For by thee I have run through a troop: by my God have I leaped over a wall.
32 For who is God, save the LORD? and who is a rock, save our God?
33 God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.
34 He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet: and setteth me upon my high places.
Solution to fear: Celebrate Who He is and what He is doing

Encouragement to Keep-on Keeping-on – Lesson #2
In this series we examine some of the top reasons Christians give up on their appointed ministry assignment.
Today we examine the problems ofLoneliness. You might experience loneliness because it seems no one understands, or because things are too personal to share, or because you are a private person or because your focus differs from everyone around you. Loneliness is an emotion. Remember your emotions are yours. You are entitled to them. No one has the right to determine how you should feel.
There is a planned and purposeful unique race set up for each of us from the point of salvation to the face-to-face encounter with our Savior, Jesus. God has created us each with unique talents, abilities, spiritual gifts and placed us each in unique circumstances for our growth and His glory.
Let’s look at the example of Joseph.
Joseph – Hebrews 11:
What would give Joseph that confidence in God? The Bible gives us four windows into his mindset
Remember Joseph, aged 17, was sold into slavery by his brothers!
Remember Joseph was falsely accused of lying with his master’s wife and imprisoned!
1) Window #1 – Genesis 41:
16 And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.
2) Window #2 – Genesis 41:
3) Window #3 – Genesis 41:
4) Window #4 – Genesis 45:
2 And he wept aloud: and the Egyptians and the house of Pharaoh heard.
Final words – Genesis 50:
Joshua 24:
What do you see in Joseph’s example? Do you see an absence of bitterness? Do you see an acceptance of divine providence while waiting for the Lord’s timing? What do you see?
The example of Moses in Hebrews 11:
24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter;
What do you see in Moses’ example? Do you see choice not based on the present? Do you see focus on things unseen rather than that which is seen? What do you see?
Remedy for loneliness
1) Remember His promises:
Genesis 39:
Hebrews 13:
2) Keep God’s track record – journal your prayer answers
3) Live life with Emmanual
Isaiah 42:
Matthew 1:
4) Ask God to help you see His bigger picture and to focus on Him rather than on circumstances.
Hebrews 12:

Daughter of mechanical engineer William Beckett Johnson, Kate married Frederick Barclay Wilkinson, a cashier, in 1891, at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, Altrincham, Cheshire. Kate worked with young women in west London, and was apparently involved with the Keswick Convention movement.
- May the mind of Christ my Savior Live in me from day to day,
By His love and pow’r controlling All I do and say. - May the Word of Christ dwell richly In my heart from hour to hour,
So that all may see I triumph Only through His pow’r. - May the peace of Christ my Savior Rule my life in everything,

Encouragement to Keep on Keeping-on-Lesson #1
In this series we examine some of the top reasons Christians give up on their appointed ministry assignment.
Today we examine the problems of team discord and personality conflicts.
God has created us with different personalities and strengths. In His wisdom He has orchestrated different backgrounds so we have different approaches to ministry, different positions in spiritual growth and different attitudes.
Our Biblical example in this study is the relationship of Paul and Barnabas
Who was Barnabas?
1) Acts 4:
37 Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
2) Barnabas assisted Paul and spoke well of Paul
Acts 9:
3) Barnabas stood with Paul
Acts 11:
25 Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:
Who was Paul?
1) An apostle according to Romans 11:
13 For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:
2) Saw the risen Jesus and was converted from a Christian killer to a Christian seeker-Acts 9
3) Wrote 13 NT books, 14 if you count Hebrews
4) Suffered for Jesus-2 Corinthians 11:
24 Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one.
28 Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches.
29 Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is offended, and I burn not?
30 If I must needs glory, I will glory of the things which concern mine infirmities
Paul & Barnabas served together on Paul’s first missionary journey lasting two years in Acts 13
Paul, Barnabas and John Mark started at Seleucia, the seaport of Antioch sailed across to Cyprus, some 80 miles to the south-west. After landing at Salamis, and proclaiming The Word of God in the
synagogues, they traveled along the entire southern coast of the island of Cyprus until they reached Paphos. From Paphos they sailed north up to the Asian mainland in what is today Turkey. They traveled the short distance up the river Cestrus to Perga in Pamphylia , where Mark left them and returned to Jerusalem.
Paul and Barnabas then continued inland for about 100 miles, up to Pisidian Antioch.. After being expelled from the region, “they shook the dust from their feet in protest against them and went to Iconium. From there they continued southward to Lystra . After preaching the good news in Derbe, they then returned back along their entire route, through Lystra, Iconium and Antioch then continued southward through the regions of Pisidia and Pamphylia until they arrived at the seaport of Attalia. From there, they boarded a ship and sailed back home to Antioch, where they had began 2 years before.
The problem and what Barnabas did (set Paul free)
Acts 15:
37 And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark.
Notice the church’s reaction: Acts 15:
40 And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God.
41 And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches.
Did Barnabas leave during the night and alone except for John Mark?
Did the church snub Barnabas?
The Holy Spirit deemed it unnecessary for us to know. Nothing else is recorded of
Barnabas in the scripture. But we see evidence of his ministry with John Mark
2 Tim 4: (approx. AD 67 before Paul’s death)
Solutions to team conflict:
- Remember we are all human- none has yet arrived, even Paul said that Phil 3:
14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Remember your goal to please Jesus not others
Take the initiative to settle disagreements
Be generous in seeking to understand another’s point of view
Trust God-Ephesians 1:
- Take action according to Jesus’ prayer-what do these words mean to you? John 17:
18As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
Where are you today? Are your circumstances difficult? I encourage you not to give up but to keep your eyes on Jesus and meeting Him at the finish line of your race. May the Lord richly bless you and encourage you!
Hebrews 12:

You are an ornament for Jesus because of His Redeeming Love
Consider the reason for Christmas. The Son of God became a man to do for us what we could not do for ourselves-be reconciled to God.
An ornament serves to adorn, decorate and embellish.
We decorate Christmas trees with a variety of ornaments. So Jesus can use a variety of people in a variety of circumstances and conditions to bring honor and glory to Himself. Where are you today in your race and relationship with Jesus? Which of these ornaments best describes you?
broken, aged, worn, tarnished, not the favorite, in storage. out-of-date
You can be an ornament for Jesus even if you feel like one of these.
The Touch of the Master’s Hand by Myra Brooks Welch
‘Twas battered and scarred, And the auctioneer thought
it hardly worth his while To waste his time on the old violin,
but he held it up with a smile.
“What am I bid, good people”, he cried,
“Who starts the bidding for me?”
“One dollar, one dollar, Do I hear two?”
“Two dollars, who makes it three?”
“Three dollars once, three dollars twice, going for three,”
But, No,
From the room far back a gray bearded man
Came forward and picked up the bow,
Then wiping the dust from the old violin
And tightening up the strings,
He played a melody, pure and sweet
As sweet as the angel sings.
The music ceased and the auctioneer
With a voice that was quiet and low,
Said “What now am I bid for this old violin?”
As he held it aloft with its’ bow.
“One thousand, one thousand, Do I hear two?”
“Two thousand, Who makes it three?”
“Three thousand once, three thousand twice,
Going and gone”, said he.
The audience cheered, But some of them cried,
“We just don’t understand.”
“What changed its’ worth?”
Swift came the reply. “The Touch of the Masters Hand.”
And many a man with life out of tune
All battered with bourbon and gin
Is auctioned cheap to a thoughtless crowd
Much like that old violin
A mess of pottage, a glass of wine,
A game and he travels on.
He is going once, he is going twice,
He is going and almost gone.
But the Master comes,
And the foolish crowd never can quite understand,
The worth of a soul and the change that is wrought
By the Touch of the Masters’ Hand.
Lamentations 3:
21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.
22 It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness
So tell Jesus all about it. He is both God and man and fully understands.
Determine by His grace to live for Him in constant communication with Him.
Enjoy the wonder of Christmas.
Redeeming Love – by Bill Gaither
From God’s heaven to a manger,
From great riches to the poor,
Came the Holy Son of God, a little Child;
From the azure halls of heaven to a lowly manger stall
Jesus came, and He gave His life for all.
Redeeming love, a love that knows no limit;
Redeeming love, a love that never dies;
My soul shall sing through-out the endless ages
The adoration of this great love on high.
From a loving heavenly Father,
To a world that knew him not,
Came a Man of sorrows Jesus Christ, the Lord;
In my wandering Jesus found me,
Touched my life with His great love,
And this Babe has grown to be my Sovereign Lord!!
Redeeming love, a love that knows no limit;
Redeeming love, a love that never dies;
My soul shall sing through-out the endless ages
The adoration of this great love !!

God’s solutions for discouragement
Christians today are in a spiritual battle. Jesus has already defeated the enemy at Calvary but we await that final removal of both the enemy and our sin nature. So where are you today in that spiritual battle? Where are you in your unique race He has set before you? Where are you today? Discouraged? Weary? Tired of the battle?
Here are some lessons from the life of Moses
You remember Moses saw injustice and tried to right it. He knew the Egyptians were wrong.
Exodus 2:
Then Moses was in the desert for 40 years and content not opposing the injustice
Exodus 2:
21 And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.
But God had other plans –Exodus 3:
But Moses had excuses in Exodus 3:
Excuse #1-Who am I? Remember God does not choose as we choose
God’s solution is Himself:
Excuse #2: What shall I say?
God’s solution is Himself:
Excuse #3 in Exodus 4: they won’t believe me
God’s solution is Himself:
2 And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.
Excuse #4: I am not…..
God’s solution is Himself:
12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.
13 And he said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send.
